Abstract: The Digital Production Arts Master of Fine Arts program, at Clemson University, specializes in training the kinds of scientist-artist who can succeed in the challenging environments of the computer animation, visual effects, and electronic game industries. The program offers a unique blend of instruction from the performing and fine arts, computer science, and mathematics, together with courses and studio experiences targeted at production techniques specific to these industries. Students are trained to become production specialists with the ability to solve complex visual problems requiring both an artistic eye and strong technical skills. This talk will feature a number of video presentations, illustrating the program’s curriculum with student work. It will also highlight former students who have gone on to successful careers in both academics and the top companies in the industry.
Bio: Donald H. House is Professor and Chair of Visual Computing in the School of Computing at Clemson University. His research area is in computer graphics and visualization, with special interests in physically based animation, and perceptual issues in visualization. In 2000 he was coeditor of the seminal book on cloth simulation, Cloth and Clothing in Computer Graphics. Dr. House holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Union College.
