Bio: James Gee, Ph.D., is a Professor of Radiologic Science and Computer and Information Science, Director of Penn Image Computing and Science Laboratory, Director of the HHMI-NIBIB Interfaces Program in Biomedical Imaging and Informational Sciences, and Co-Director of the Translational Biomedical Imaging Center of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, all at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia.  Dr. Gee's interests are broadly in the field of biological and medical image analysis and computing.  The lab he directs, the Penn Image Computing and Science Laboratory (PICSL), is well known for its track record of methodological innovation in nearly every area of the field and its commitment to translating research accomplishments into acclaimed open-source software – the lab's ITK-SNAP, ANTs, DTI-TK and ITK software are consistently ranked as the best performing and most widely used applications in segmentation, registration, DTI analysis and morphometry.  The group’s large portfolio of interdisciplinary collaborations spans different model systems and the major modalities in biological and medical imaging, in integrative studies of structure-function relationships of the eye, brain, breast, lung, heart and musculoskeletal system in health and disease.

Dr. Gee has published more than 240 papers on prestigious journals, 139 of which he is the first/corresponding author. These journals include IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (IF: 4.7), IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging (IF: 4.0), IEEE Transactions on Image Processing (IF: 3.2), IEEE/ACM Transactions on Computational Biology and Bioinformatics (IF: 1.6), NeuroImage (IF: 6.2), Human Brain Mapping (IF: 6.8), PLoS Medicine (IF: 15.2) and Neurology (IF: 8.2). He is now an associate editor of multiple journals in the fields of medical image analysis and pattern recognition, such as IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering and Medical Image Analysis. He also serves as the editor of several journals in neuro-computing, including NeuroImage and Computerized Medical Imaging and Graphics. He served as a co-chair of prestigious conferences in computer vision and medical image analysis, such as CVPR, ICCV, MICCAI and IPMI. Dr. Gee has built long-term collaborations with some of top universities in the world including Harvard and Stanford.
